While little downtime is necessary after a miraDry treatment, you should expect some discomfort and swelling that may linger for a couple of weeks. Some numbness is also normal.
For the quickest recovery, apply ice, on and off, for the first 24–48 hours, and take over-the-counter pain relievers following your doctor’s instructions. It’s also advised to avoid heavy lifting, running, or intense exercise for at least a week post-treatment.
Often, patients report an immediate, drastic reduction in sweat after treatment, and some reviewers on RealSelf agree that they’re instantaneous; others say results will take a few days. Many patients report ditching deodorant and antiperspirant within days of their first treatment!
Note: You’ll still sweat in other parts of your body, but your underarms won’t need platinum protection.
Once the thermal energy has destroyed your sweat glands, they won’t regenerate, though more than one treatment may be necessary. About 20–30% of patients may benefit from a second treatment to get optimal results. If you still notice wetness and odor after one session, talk to Dr. Majewski about whether an additional treatment will help you reach your goals.
